Current Electives

Drama

Upper Division Drama promotes enjoyment and appreciation for all aspects of theatre. Class work focuses on the exploration of performance and  historical and cultural connections. Improvisation, creative dramatics, and beginning scene work are used to introduce students to acting and character development. Drama provides opportunities for students to develop skills in critical listening and thinking, as well as stage presence, ensemble work, and aesthetic awareness culminating in periodic classroom and/or public performances. Students additionally learn about the organizational structure of theatre and theatre literature. Of importance in Drama is students’ opportunity to develop fundamental group and self- assessment skills, problem-solving skills; the ability to connect the literature being studied to a variety of cultures, history, and other content areas; and development of 21st-century skills that will help students be successful after high school graduation.

Physical Education

Structured physical education classes are taught to grades 3 – 8. High school students are enrolled in physical education classes as electives and as required by the state of Florida, for graduation. Music encourages the special needs of our student body and includes auditory development, visual auditory integration, cognitive processing, self awareness, and positive self concept. Parents of students contract with private professional music instructors.

Art

Art instruction is available in small groups (3 - 6 students) for grades 3 – 12. Art not only exposes students in the techniques of the classical periods and the styles of art methods and artists, it provides the student with the opportunity to create in the same style. The value of art therapy in the Seven Bridges School program is to develop visual attending, visual scanning, visual memory, visual processing, and visual spatial abilities. The art instructor and faculty communicate regularly in order to coordinate visualizing skills as they apply to reading and writing abilities. Student art is exhibited in local art shows, fairs, banks, and professional lobbies which further enhances students’ self concepts.

You are an academic angel for helping that child realize he has a heart. I found your kindness and what you shared with me yesterday very moving.
